ABSTRACT
A trial was conducted at the Deptt. of Horticulture, Junagadh Agricul. University, Junagadh during the summer of 2008-2009 to assess the performance of tomato hybrids under partially and fully controlled polyhouses. The experiment comprising of four hybrids viz., BSS-766, BSS-713, BSS-099 and GT-2 and two growing environments viz., controlled polyhouse and naturally ventilated polyhouse was evaluated in a Factorial Completely Randomized Design with three replications. Of the different hybrids, BSS-766 recorded the maximum plant height, number of branches per plant, minimum days to first flower appearance, days to fruit set, days to first harvest, number of fruits per plant, weight of fruits per plant, polar diameter of fruit, equatorial diameter of fruit, pericarp thickness, number of locules per fruit and yield. With regard to polyhouses, the maximum plant height and number of branches per plant were recorded under controlled polyhouse. Whereas, the minimum days to first flower appearance, days to fruit set, days to first harvest and the maximum number of fruits per plant, weight of fruits per plant, polar diameter of fruit, equatorial diameter of fruit, and yield were recorded by naturally ventilated polyhouse.
