ABSTRACT
A field experiment to know the effect of NPK levels on forskolin content and yield in Coleus forskohlii Briq. was conducted at Arabhavi, Karnataka under irrigated condition during 2004 and 2005. The treatments consisted of three nitrogen (N) levels (50, 100 and 150 kg/ha), two phosphorus (P) levels (50 and 100 kg P2O5/ha) and three potassium (K) levels (50, 100 and 150 kg K2O/ha). A control was also included (N0P0K0). The experiment was laid out in randomized block design with factorial concept and replicated thrice. Different levels of NPK did not influence the forskolin content significantly though, there was decrease in trend with increase in nutrient levels. Similarly, interaction effects of nutrients were also equal in influencing the forskolin content except the highest level of nutrient interaction (N150P100K150) where, its content was the lowest. All the nutrient levels and their interactions influenced the forskolin yield significantly. The highest forskolin yield was recorded at lower N (50 kg/ha) and K (50 and 100 kg K2O/ ha) levels and higher P (100 kg P2O5) level. The interactions of N50P50K50, N50K100K50 and N50P100K100 recorded significantly higher forskolin yield (16.06, 15.35 and 14.17 kg/ha, respectively). Thus, application of nutrients in the combination of N50P50K50 was found optimum for getting higher forskolin yield under irrigated condition.
